Regulatory Framework

Concrete pumps and mixers are classified as plant under ADOSH-SF CoP 36.0. Truck-mounted concrete pumps with placing booms are also subject to CoP 34.0 as the boom is a lifting/placing device. All concrete pump operators must hold a valid operator competency certificate. Concrete pump pipelines operating under pressure are subject to pressure vessel and pressure system requirements.

Concrete Pump Safety Requirements

Before each pour, the concrete pump operator must carry out a documented pre-use inspection covering the boom, hydraulics, outriggers, pipeline condition, and all safety devices. The boom must not be extended beyond its rated radius. All personnel must be clear of the boom swing radius during operation. Pipeline pressure must not exceed the manufacturer's maximum working pressure.

Concrete pump pipeline blockages are a leading cause of serious injuries on UAE construction sites. Never attempt to clear a blockage while the pipeline is under pressure. Always follow the manufacturer's blockage clearance procedure.
