Compressors & Pneumatic Equipment
Air compressors, pneumatic tools, pressure vessels, and compressed air systems — UAE pressure vessel regulations, inspection, safe operating pressures, and hose management for construction sites.
Regulatory Framework
Air compressors and pressure vessels on UAE construction sites are governed by ADOSH-SF CoP 36.0 (Plant and Equipment) and are subject to the UAE pressure vessel inspection requirements. All pressure vessels must have a valid inspection certificate from an approved inspection body. The UAE follows the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME BPVC) and BS EN 286 for pressure vessel design and inspection.

criticalPressure vessel standard
ASME BPVC / BS EN 286 — as referenced in UAE regulations
criticalInspection certificate
Valid certificate from approved inspection body — mandatory

Compressor and Pressure Vessel Requirements
All air compressors used on UAE construction sites must have a valid pressure vessel inspection certificate. The pressure relief valve must be tested and calibrated. The air receiver must be drained daily to remove condensate. Maximum operating pressure must be clearly marked on the vessel and must not be exceeded. Compressors must be positioned in a ventilated area away from combustible materials.
Pressure vessel inspection
Annual inspection by approved body — certificate on site
criticalPressure relief valve
Tested and calibrated — set below maximum allowable working pressure
criticalAir receiver draining
Daily — to remove condensate and prevent corrosion
criticalMaximum pressure marking
Clearly marked on vessel — must not be exceeded
criticalPositioning
Ventilated area — minimum 1 m from combustible materials
criticalCompressor guarding
All moving parts guarded — belt drives, fans, couplings

Pneumatic Tool and Hose Safety
Pneumatic tools and air hoses on UAE construction sites must be rated for the maximum operating pressure of the compressor. Hose connections must be secured with whip checks or safety cables to prevent hose whip in the event of a connection failure. Air hoses must not be used to clean clothing or skin — compressed air can cause fatal air embolism.
Hose pressure rating
Rated for maximum compressor operating pressure
criticalWhip checks / safety cables
Required on all hose connections
criticalHose inspection
Before each use — no cuts, abrasions, or bulges
criticalAir for cleaning
Never use compressed air to clean clothing or skin
criticalPPE for pneumatic tools
Eye protection mandatory — hearing protection where noise >85 dB(A)
