How to run the inspection
The order below keeps the walk-round safe and makes the printed record defensible in a client or authority audit.
- 1
Record the site details
Enter the site or project name, the emirate and the inspector so the printed record identifies who carried out the inspection and which supply authority's rules apply.
- 2
Isolate and verify dead before opening enclosures
Apply lock-out/tag-out at the isolation point, prove the tester, prove dead and prove the tester again before any distribution board or enclosure is opened for inspection.
- 3
Walk the supply from source to final circuit
Work through the categories in order — earthing and bonding, isolation, distribution boards, RCDs, breakers, generators, cabling — ticking each check as you verify it on site.
- 4
Test RCDs and record instrument readings
Trip-test every RCD, measure earth electrode and continuity values, and note the instrument serial number and calibration date against the inspection and testing section.
- 5
Close out critical items before energising
Any outstanding critical item stops energisation. Assign an owner and a date to each open item, then re-inspect once the corrective action is complete.
- 6
Print or save the completed record
Print the checklist to PDF and file it in your inspection and test register alongside the instrument results and the competent person's certification.
Frequently asked questions
Is the site electrical inspection checklist free?
Yes. All 98 checks are free to use with no sign-up. Progress is saved in your browser on the device you use, and you can print the whole checklist for a paper walk-round at any time.
What does the checklist cover?
Earthing and bonding, isolation and lock-out/tag-out, distribution boards, RCDs, breakers/MCBs/LCBs, generators and temporary power sources, cabling and wiring, site offices and welfare areas, water coolers, water and sewage pumps and site bathrooms, and inspection and testing records — each check referenced to the UAE authority or standard that requires it.
Are water coolers, water pumps and site toilets covered by the checklist?
Yes. A dedicated 16-point section covers drinking water coolers and dispensers, water transfer, booster, dewatering and sewage pumps, electric water heaters, and toilet and ablution blocks — including 30 mA RCD protection, Type B RCDs for inverter-driven pumps, supplementary equipotential bonding, IP/zone ratings under IEC 60364-7-701, and the 3-monthly portable appliance testing interval used on UAE construction sites.
What do the critical, standard and advisory labels mean?
Critical items are those where a failure can cause electrocution, arc flash or fire and should stop energisation until closed. Standard items are mandatory compliance points required by the supply authority or standard. Advisory items are recognised good practice that inspectors commonly look for but which are not strictly mandated.
Can I use the completed checklist as evidence in an authority or client audit?
It is designed for that. Fill in the site, emirate and inspector fields, complete the walk-round, then print to PDF so the record carries the date, the inspector name and the reference for each check. Keep it in your inspection and test register alongside the instrument test results.
