Identify Fragile Before Anyone Steps On It

Any roof or surface that cannot safely bear the weight of a person and their tools is fragile. In the UAE this most often means fibre-cement sheeting, polycarbonate/GRP rooflights, corroded profiled metal deck, and asbestos-cement sheets on older industrial buildings. No one should step on a roof surface until it has been assessed and confirmed load-bearing in writing.

UAE Heat and Roof Work

Roof surfaces in Abu Dhabi and Dubai routinely exceed 70 °C in summer. This causes burns on contact, degrades harness webbing and ropes, softens membranes so they will not bear point loads, and accelerates heat exhaustion — which is itself a leading cause of falls.
