Fire Safety & Civil Defense

🔥 Fire safety in a UAE labour camp is not optional. It is a zero-tolerance area.

Every accommodation facility in the UAE must comply with the UAE Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice (Civil Defense, Ministry of Interior) and the relevant NFPA standards — particularly NFPA 10 for extinguishers and NFPA 101 for emergency exits.

Here is what inspectors will look for:

🚨 Fire Detection & Suppression
A functioning fire alarm system with public announcement capability is mandatory. Fire extinguishers must be deployed at one per 200–300 m² of floor area. Firefighting water reservoirs, supply systems, and pumps must meet Civil Defense specifications.

🚪 Emergency Exits
All exits must be unobstructed at all times, clearly marked, and illuminated by emergency lighting powered by chargeable backup devices in case of power failure. Stairways used for firefighting must be a minimum of 1,200 mm wide.

📍 Muster Points
Assembly areas must be clearly designated, well-lit, and accessible without navigating steep stairs or narrow corridors. Evacuation plans must be prominently displayed throughout the facility.

🚬 Smoking
Designated outdoor smoking areas only. No exceptions.

🏗️ Building Materials
All building materials must be non-flammable and approved by the Civil Defense Directorate. Doors must be fireproof.
