Anchor-Point Failures on UAE High-Rise Projects

Two publicly reported anchor-point failures on UAE high-rise projects in early 2026 highlight the gap between certified anchors and correctly installed and inspected anchors.

A certified anchor point is only as safe as its installation and its most recent inspection. The two publicly reported anchor failures on UAE high-rise projects in early 2026 both involved anchors that had been certified at manufacture but installed into substrate that did not meet the certification assumptions.

The three failure categories

  • Substrate mismatch — anchor rated for concrete installed into hollow block or degraded render.
  • Installation drift — anchor installed at the wrong angle, wrong depth, or with the wrong resin.
  • Inspection gap — anchor installed 18 months ago, no post-installation load test, no annual re-inspection.

What good looks like

  • Anchor register per zone with installation certificate, substrate specification, installer competency and inspection history.
  • Post-installation proof-load test with independent witness.
  • Colour-coded quarterly inspection tag visible from the work position.
  • Automatic quarantine of any anchor past its inspection date.

Rescue plan, not just fall arrest

A worker suspended in a full-body harness for more than 10 minutes is at risk of suspension trauma. Every working-at-height task on a UAE project should have a documented, rehearsed rescue plan — not just a fall-arrest system. The 2026 inspections are asking to see the rescue drill records alongside the harness inspection register.
