Based on Ministry of Interior figures, the UAE recorded 6,014 major road accidents in 2025 — 23% more than in 2024. The number injured or killed rose 20% to 7,947. Sudden swerving, distraction, tailgating and inattention caused nearly 60% of major accidents. Motorcycle accidents rose 39%, making occupational driving and delivery work a material corporate HSE risk.

The controls that actually reduce collisions

  • Journey management for long trips, night driving and cross-emirate travel.
  • Telematics with harsh-braking, speeding and phone-use scoring.
  • Fatigue limits — hours behind the wheel and cumulative shift hours.
  • Mobile-phone controls, including two-wheeler helmet comms discipline.
  • Defensive-driving standards with re-testing after any at-fault incident.
  • Rider PPE: helmet, gloves, high-visibility jacket, closed footwear.
  • Vehicle roadworthiness checks before shift, not just at annual test.
  • Contractor and 3PL oversight matched to your direct-employee standard.

Incentives should reward safe, not just fast

Delivery bonus schemes that pay purely on drops per hour drive the exact behaviour that shows up in the accident data. Review incentive design as an engineering control on the same footing as helmets and telematics.
